Houzz.com is a great resource for ideas! We love this article on color and pattern."Solid White, beige or gray upholstery feeling a bit tired? Dip your toe into the world of colorful, patterned upholstery — or dive in — with this mini-guide to a dozen styles. As we work our way from the options that are easiest to live with (a colorful breakfast nook, contrast piping) to those that require true commitment (a peacock velvet sofa), see if one of these 12 ideas strikes a chord."
The Moreno Valley collection by Liberty Furniture is a great option if you're looking for casual furniture. It features a rich, cobble brown color and burnished bar-style metal hardware for a country inspired look. The angled hutch top has metal wine rack inserts. The trestle style table has the desired heavy block legs and a thick top: these are accented by a "stone" finish inset that ads an earthy design, and the bottom shelf ads valuable storage. The side chairs are well padded upholstery for ultimate comfort and style.
How Fun! The buffet offers an optional, electric fireplace insert! Warm up and create a rustic, wholesome dining space for you and your family to enjoy.
We had a great time this morning when Fox News Boston visited Charlton for one of their popular Zip Trips. Each Friday during the summer, they visit and highlight a different town (zip code) in their viewing area.
Charlton Furniture was pleased to be one of the local businesses featured on the show. Last week, Sorboni Banerjee came to visit the store and did a short interview with owner, Susan LeBlanc. They talked about our store’s commitment to family values and tradition, our great selection of American-made furniture and our 43 year history in the town. The final edit contained only the part stating that this property was once a farm but is now over 3000 square feet of beautiful showroom; we weren’t disappointed, the whole experience was a blast!

The “Yorba Collection” from Bradington Young has been one of our best-selling styles for good reason:
- It has clean lines that lend well to both traditional and contemporary decors.
- It’s made from beautiful, top grade leather.
- It has comfortable down-filled cushions
- And it’s reasonably priced
The main reason I choose it for my home was the quality of leather. There is a big difference between lesser grade and top grain leathers. A lesser grade will wear out and look dirty and messy whereas a better leather fades and looks “broken in” (like an old leather jacket). I know that we will have this furniture in our home for a long time and I want it to still look stylish, even when it’s ready to be replaced.
Hooker Furniture’s Four Door and One-drawer 76” credenza - #5220-85001
Curvaceous & sleek, this head-turning console ROCKS with clean, transitional styling. Dimensionally this piece covers 6 feet in width but what a great counterpoint to the grand scales of current TVs! Despite its slim demi-lune depth, storage is throughout. Better yet, the console features an infrared eye to hide ugly components, and the center drawer folds down to house the cable box. Stylish, practical, and prudent in price-point; this is a sensational piece.
Recently, I placed this in 2 home family room designs for the just right look!
For those of us who weren’t born with a proverbial “green thumb” but love the color and life that flowers bring into our home, paper flowers may be a great substitute. HouseBeautiful magazine did a fun article last month that could inspire our inner crafter (if not our home interior!). These beauties will liven up living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, bedrooms – everywhere!
Artist Livia Cetti snips, stretches, twists, and dyes paper to coax forth her extraordinary blooms. ‘A plant or bouquet can be designed to suit any style,’ she says. ‘The possibilities are endless.’”

Looking for a little help designing outside of your comfort zone? Here are some great hints we found on Houzz.com for choosing area rugs..."Patterned rugs featuring neat repeats, smart stripes or graphic geometrics are only one part of the rich and varied story of rugs. It’s also possible to find rugs that paint a picture, depict a scene or simply create a huge splash with a wild, unfettered design. These give you the opportunity to treat your floor as you would your walls — as a large expanse that’s ripe for displaying images. Check out this roundup of picture-perfect rugs to help you step in style."

In the furniture industry, there are 2 trade shows (or ‘markets’ as they are called) a year in High Point, North Carolina, where most of the furniture makers bring out their latest introductions. High Point is a quiet little city for 50 weeks out of the year, but for the 2 weeks (one in April, the other in October) everything changes! It becomes a bustling place where all the hotels are full, and restaurants are packed with sales reps, store owners, designers and buyers. The one common thread between them is their passion for all things furniture.
The excitement in the air is palpable – especially in April after a long winter for most. Those of us from the north look forward to the warmth in both the air and the people of High Point. Southern hospitality at its best. This year, market takes place from the 18th to the 23rd. Manufacturers will be displaying their latest and greatest, and the reps will be doing their best to convince store owners and buyers that they need one of everything!
High Point is where you see the coming colors and trends, beautiful displays, renew friendships, and get excited in general about furniture again. If you are as passionate about beautifully crafted furniture as we are (and if you are reading this you must be!), this is what it’s all about. Stay tuned for the new offerings!
NATURE CELEBRATES SPRING
Spring is a wonderful season to add flowers to your room’s decor. Include floral designs on new bed linens, a stack of toss pillows, a chair slipcover, a small hand-painted table, place-mats and table covers, trays and other accessories as well as bouquets and pots of live flowers.
Bring your garden indoors using one or more of the seasons beautiful spring fabrics. The many bird, butterfly and bloom motifs, in eye candy colored hues, will enliven your home. Flowers have always said charm and romance in a timeless language.
